Snow Marathon League Debuts to Champion Himalayan Conservation

India’s first high-altitude racing league unites adventure sports with environmental protection and animal welfare. CHANDIGARH – A pioneering initiative, the Snow Marathon League (SMLg), has officially launched in India. This league aims to promote high-altitude adventure sports while driving awareness for environmental conservation and animal welfare across the Himalayas. The team behind Asia’s only Snow Marathon in Lahaul conceptualized this new league. Having successfully completed four editions in Lahaul, the organizers now seek to unite mountain communities and adventure enthusiasts. Consequently, the initiative fosters responsible engagement with fragile ecosystems. A major highlight of the league is the upcoming SnowTails Fest, scheduled from March 20–22, 2026, in Lahaul. This event is celebrated as the world’s highest snow dog race. It features dogs and their owners competing together. This year’s fest follows three previously successful editions in the region. Furthermore, the Snow Marathon League will introduce the world’s highest Snow Ultra and a Snow Walkathon. These additions ensure a wider section of the public can participate. “The Snow Walkathon provides an opportunity for participants who may not be ready for a challenging marathon to still walk for causes close to them,” stated Race Director Col. Saurav Schimer. Looking ahead, the league will expand to Kashmir. Col. J.S. Dhillon, Principal Chief of the event, invited runners to the inaugural Snow Marathon Kashmir at Gulmarg on February 14, 2027. He noted that the Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) will serve as the technical partner for the international event. Event Chief Col. Arun Natarajan explained that efforts are underway to institutionalize the league with support from the Indian Armed Forces. Meanwhile, medical safety remains a priority. Abhijit Singh, Director of Fortis Hospital Mohali, emphasized that high-altitude sports require extensive preparation. “Fortis Hospital will continue supporting the league’s medical needs,” he confirmed. Finally, the league focuses heavily on animal rights. Dr. Becky Metcalf, Co-founder of Manali Strays, invited pet owners to the SnowTails Fest to support rabies eradication. Founder Gaurav Schimar added that the league encourages people to reconnect with nature. Therefore, the SMLg stands as a beacon for harmony between humans and the Himalayan wilderness.

No-Confidence Motion
Nation Update

Amit Shah Slams No-Confidence Motion as Attack on Democracy

Union Minister Amit Shah defended Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, calling the opposition’s no-confidence motion an unfortunate breach of parliamentary decorum. He argued that questioning the Speaker’s impartiality undermines the credibility of India’s highest democratic institutions. NEW DELHI – Union Home Minister Amit Shah today issued a staunch defense of the Lok Sabha Speaker, describing the opposition’s no-confidence motion as a direct strike against democratic traditions. Speaking during the House discussion on March 12, 2026, Shah noted that such a motion has not been seen in nearly four decades. Consequently, he labelled the development as both “unfortunate and concerning” for the nation’s parliamentary health. Shah emphasized that the Speaker does not represent a single party. Instead, the office acts as the ultimate protector of rights for both the ruling benches and the opposition. “The Speaker represents the entire House,” Shah stated. “Therefore, questioning the dignity and impartiality of this position undermines the credibility of our democratic institutions.” The Home Minister highlighted that the House engaged in 13 hours of detailed deliberation involving 42 Members of Parliament. Despite this extensive dialogue, he accused the opposition of trying to weaken India’s global standing. Furthermore, he addressed allegations made by the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, regarding “stifled” speech. Shah presented official data to counter these claims. He noted that the opposition received 71 hours of speaking time in the 18th Lok Sabha so far. This proportion, he argued, is significantly higher than that of the ruling party relative to seat counts. “Whenever the Leader of the Opposition gets the opportunity to speak, he is often on foreign visits,” Shah remarked, citing Gandhi’s absences in Germany and Vietnam during previous sessions. Moreover, Shah praised Speaker Om Birla’s integrity. Notably, Birla is the first Speaker to recuse himself from presiding on moral grounds after the motion was admitted. Shah also pointed out that the Speaker allowed the opposition to correct technical errors in their notice, reflecting a deep commitment to fairness. In his concluding remarks, the Home Minister urged the House to reject the motion with a clear majority. He maintained that Parliament functions on mutual trust and strict decorum. Ultimately, Shah asserted that any attempt to weaken India’s democratic fabric would never be accepted by the public.

AAP Leader Demands CBI Probe into ₹108 Crore MC Chandigarh–IDFC Bank Scam

Senior AAP leader Prem Garg alleges fake fixed deposits worth ₹108 crore in IDFC First Bank and seeks an independent CBI investigation. Chandigarh, March 10: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prem Garg has strongly condemned the alleged financial irregularities involving around ₹108 crore linked to fake fixed deposits in IDFC First Bank associated with the Municipal Corporation (MC) Chandigarh. Calling the matter a serious financial scandal, he demanded an immediate Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to uncover the full extent of the alleged conspiracy. Prem Garg questioned why Municipal Corporation officials deposited public funds in a private bank such as IDFC First Bank when large government funds are generally kept in nationalized banks like State Bank of India (SBI) or Punjab National Bank (PNB), which are considered more secure. He asked the administration to clarify who authorized the opening of the account and under whose direction the funds were deposited in the private bank. Garg also rejected claims by Municipal Corporation officials that the entire amount had been returned by the bank. According to him, the funds could still remain under lien until legal proceedings are completed, meaning the amount cannot be released without permission from a court or competent authority. He added that such legal processes can take several months, making the funds effectively blocked and unavailable for public use at present. The AAP leader also criticized the functioning of the Municipal Corporation, alleging that several previous scams had not seen any concrete action against those responsible. Citing examples, he referred to the paid parking scam, the CITCO fake bank guarantee case, and alleged illegal extortion by enforcement staff from street vendors, which he claimed involves crores of rupees. Garg alleged that in most of these cases no strict action has been taken against the officials involved, which encourages corruption. “The people of Chandigarh deserve transparency and accountability. Misuse of public money in this manner cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” Prem Garg said. He demanded the following actions from the administration: Prem Garg said that the Aam Aadmi Party will continue to raise the issue until every rupee of public money is secured and all those responsible for the alleged scam are brought under the law.

Naresh Arora Criticizes Congress Over AI Exhibition Protest

Naresh Arora alleged that the Congress protest during the international AI exhibition in Delhi harmed India’s global image. Chandigarh: Naresh Arora, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Sunday criticized the Congress party over a protest staged by its youth wing during an international AI exhibition held in Delhi. The exhibition was attended by several foreign delegates to observe India’s technological advancements. In a statement, Arora said the international AI exhibition reflected India’s growing global stature in technology and innovation. He described the protest by the Congress youth wing as inappropriate and said it could harm the country’s image at a time when foreign representatives were present. Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Arora alleged that the party had previously made statements abroad that were critical of India, and claimed that the protest during the exhibition reflected a similar approach domestically. He termed it an example of what he called “double standards” in politics. Arora also mentioned that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, India has made rapid progress in technology, innovation, and digital development. He stated that such protests during events attended by international guests were unfortunate and not in line with national dignity. The BJP leader said matters related to national pride should be handled with responsibility rather than political confrontation. He added that the Congress should issue a public apology over the incident.
