Breastfeeding Is More Than Nutrition—It’s a Deep Emotional Bond: Dr. Vandana Mittal
Paras Health marks World Breastfeeding Week with awareness drive, urges community support for mothers Panchkula, August 8:On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, Paras Health took a significant step toward improving maternal and newborn health by organizing an awareness program aimed at promoting breastfeeding and strengthening support systems for mothers. Aligning with the global theme of this year, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”, the hospital emphasized the need to make breastfeeding a societal priority and provide consistent guidance and care for new mothers. Speaking at the event, Dr. Vandana Mittal, Senior Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Paras Health, said, “Breastfeeding is not just about nutrition. It forms a deep emotional bond between mother and child. With the right support and guidance, mothers can overcome initial challenges and provide their babies with a stronger, healthier start.” She added that breastfeeding acts as a baby’s first vaccine, enhancing immunity and contributing to both physical and cognitive development. For mothers, it aids postpartum recovery, weight management, and even lowers the risk of certain cancers. Despite its importance, only 48% of infants worldwide are exclusively breastfed for the first six months, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO aims to raise this to 60% by 2030, but significant gaps remain in awareness and support. To address this, Paras Health has partnered with grassroots organizations and health workers to roll out breastfeeding awareness initiatives in rural areas of Haryana. The goal is to empower mothers, dispel myths, and ensure no woman feels unsupported. Dr. Mittal stressed that initial hurdles like low milk supply, incorrect feeding posture, or societal pressure require continuous assistance and correct information. Paras Health continues to offer maternal and newborn care, pregnancy education, and counseling services to support families at every step. This initiative by Paras Health sets an example of how healthcare institutions can champion motherhood and contribute to building a healthier future generation.
