70-Year-Old Patient Gets New Life After Successful Mechanical Thrombectomy at Max Hospital Bathinda

Life-saving minimally invasive procedure removes deadly blood clots in lungs Bathinda: In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Bathinda, successfully saved the life of a 70-year-old patient suffering from a life-threatening pulmonary embolism through an advanced mechanical thrombectomy procedure. Pulmonary embolism is a critical condition caused by blood clots blocking the arteries of the lungs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe respiratory failure and even death. The patient was rushed to Max Bathinda in an extremely critical state, experiencing sudden breathlessness and loss of consciousness. Medical investigations revealed dangerously high pulmonary artery pressure and drastically low oxygen levels, which severely compromised heart function. Standard treatment with blood-thinning medication alone was insufficient due to the severity of the condition. Under the leadership of Dr. Dixit Goyal, Consultant, Cardiology, a team of specialists at Max Bathinda opted for an advanced, minimally invasive approach using the Penumbra Aspiration System. This state-of-the-art technology allows doctors to safely remove large blood clots from the lungs without open surgery. Speaking about the case, Dr. Goyal said, “This was a high-risk emergency. The patient’s oxygen levels had dropped dangerously, and the heart was under immense strain. Using the Penumbra Aspiration System, we were able to remove major clots from both lungs. This immediately improved oxygenation and reduced pressure on the pulmonary arteries.” Read More: Punjab ADTT Tender Emerging as a Major Scam, Alleges Dr. Kamal Soi The results were almost instant. The patient’s oxygen saturation improved to 100%, and the pulmonary artery pressure returned to normal. After four days of close monitoring, the patient was discharged in a stable and healthy condition. Dr. Goyal emphasized that mechanical thrombectomy is a breakthrough life-saving procedure for patients suffering from massive pulmonary embolism, especially when conventional treatments are not enough. He added that timely intervention and the availability of advanced medical technologies at Max Bathinda played a crucial role in saving the patient’s life. With this successful procedure, Max Super Speciality Hospital Bathinda has reinforced its reputation as a leading center for advanced cardiology and emergency care in Punjab, offering cutting-edge treatments that provide new hope for critically ill patients.

Punjab ADTT Tender Emerging as a Major Scam, Alleges Dr. Kamal Soi

International road safety expert raises alarm over Punjab’s new Automated Driving Test Tracks tender, calling it biased and corruption-driven. Chandigarh:International road safety expert Dr. Kamal Soi, Chairman of Rahat – The Safe Community Foundation and Society for Corruption Free India (SCFI), has alleged that the Punjab government’s newly issued tender for Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) is emerging as a major scam. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Dr. Soi said the tender appears designed to benefit select private companies rather than ensuring transparency and accountability. He recalled the April 2025 action by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, which had exposed a massive “license-for-bribe” racket. During that operation, 24 arrests were made, 16 FIRs registered, and several senior officials—including an ADGP, SSP (Vigilance), and an AIG—were suspended. Dr. Soi urged both the Punjab Chief Minister and Governor to immediately intervene and stop what he described as a “planned scam.” Failing this, he warned that his organizations would have no option but to approach the judiciary to ensure justice for the people of Punjab. Read More: PHDCCI 11th Ins/Out Exhibition Inaugurated by U.T. Home Secretary Chandigarh He also criticized the delay in implementing Microsoft India’s HAMS Technology, which was ready for deployment at SAS Nagar (Mohali) to conduct competency-based driving tests. The project was kept on hold for months and only rolled out after intense media pressure. Since its launch, over 10,000 driving tests have been conducted at Mohali using the HAMS-based system, with results showing only a 40% pass rate—a stark contrast to the 99% pass rate in other parts of Punjab. “This discrepancy highlights serious concerns about corruption and flawed testing systems,” Dr. Soi said, noting that even the Supreme Court of India has repeatedly pulled up the state government on this issue. Despite these findings, the Punjab government has issued a new RFP (Notification No: PSTS/1361, dated 05.09.2025) for the selection of service providers to manage the implementation, operation, and maintenance of ADTTs for the next five years. According to Dr. Soi, this tender reeks of manipulation, favoritism, and corruption, raising questions over the state’s commitment to road safety and transparency.

Fortis Mohali Performs Successful Robotic Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy on 43-Year-Old Woman

A woman with multiple breast tumors treated using advanced Da Vinci Xi robotic technology at Fortis Hospital Mohali. Chandigarh: In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at Fortis Hospital Mohali successfully performed a robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy with implant reconstruction on a 43-year-old woman suffering from multiple breast tumors. The surgery was carried out by the Department of Breast and Endocrine Surgery using the world’s most advanced fourth-generation robotic system — the Da Vinci Xi. Fortis Mohali remains the only hospital north of Delhi-NCR to offer this state-of-the-art robotic breast surgery facility. Robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy is a minimally invasive, scarless procedure in which breast tissue is removed through a hidden incision near the armpit. The skin, nipple, and areola are preserved, ensuring that the breast’s shape and sensation remain intact. This advanced approach not only removes cancer effectively but also provides better cosmetic and emotional outcomes for patients. The patient, a 43-year-old woman, had been experiencing multiple lumps, skin discoloration, and changes in the nipple of her left breast. Following detailed diagnostic tests, she was confirmed to have multiple tumors. Considering her age and condition, a team led by Dr. Naval Bansal, Senior Consultant, Breast and Endocrine Cancer Surgery, opted for robotic-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy with implant reconstruction. The cancerous breast tissue was removed through a small hidden incision, leaving no visible scar. The patient recovered well and was discharged just three days after surgery. Post-surgical reports confirmed the complete removal of tumors. Speaking about the procedure, Dr. Bansal explained that traditional breast surgeries often leave visible scars, which can be emotionally distressing for women. In contrast, the robotic nipple-sparing approach ensures a hidden incision, faster recovery, fewer re-surgeries, and better preservation of sensation compared to conventional techniques. The success of this case highlights Fortis Mohali’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology for patient care. Experts believe such advancements in robotic breast surgery will significantly improve the quality of life for cancer patients by combining oncological safety with aesthetic outcomes.
