Farmers to Receive Agricultural Inputs; Stronger Flood Protection Measures Promised Chandigarh. Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, has announced a contribution of ₹5 crore towards Punjab flood relief, combining his MP fund and personal donation. Dr. Sahney stated that the funds will support the State Disaster Relief Force in procuring advanced boats for rescue operations and modern dredging machines to remove silt from rivers. He also committed to funding the construction of stronger embankments and flood protection walls to safeguard vulnerable areas from future disasters. His NGO, Sun Foundation, has already been actively engaged in relief work at the ground level. With an expenditure of over ₹1 crore so far, the foundation has provided motorboats and ambulances to the administration, while distributing dry rations, medical kits, sanitation supplies, and cattle fodder to flood-affected families. Looking ahead, Dr. Sahney announced that marginal farmers would be provided with agricultural inputs such as wheat seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to support the upcoming sowing season. He further urged the Centre to sanction a ₹10,000 crore special flood relief package for Punjab. His proposal includes compensation of ₹50,000 per acre for crop losses, financial support for daily wage workers and livestock rearers, and funds for the restoration of damaged infrastructure.
